Photo of the Day #22: Remembrance

Today is Memorial Day. It is a holiday we dedicate to all the brave men and women who have, are and will serve our country. We thank you for all you do for all of us!
My son Niklas Laurence was named after my grandpa Laurence "Larry" Sowles. He served our country in the Marine Corps as a Corsair fighter pilot in the pacific theatre in WWII. There was a History Channel video made about the Corsair Plane, there is actual video footage of my grandpa and some of his buddies talking and hanging out near a Corsair plane. Even tho my grandma said "oh its nothing really," and it is only a minute of footage,  it's really pretty awesome!
My grandpa lived to be 86,  but his life still seemed to be cut short. He was an absolutely incredible man who is still so dearly missed! I was pregnant with Niklas in July of 2009 when my grandpa died, I really wish they could have met here on earth.

I love my Dad and Kids! Both in one great picture! Today is my dads birthday. When my sisters and I were kids, every May 17th we would take a picture on my dads lap for his Birthday, much like this one. It started with just me, and it was fun to watch as our family grew. Now on this May 17th in 2012, its Grandpa and his two grandkids......I LOVE......... THAT!

Today we celebrated Great Grandma Sowles' 87th Birthday. She sure looks good huh!

(Not to make excuses, and this is where I need to improve, I can't rush my self, and I need to take the time to get everything set up right so I can capture that perfect picture at the perfect time. But my aperture was set too high here, hence the slight blurriness of Niklas and my Dad. But Practice makes perfect, that's why I am doing this!)

I didn't take this Picture today, but these are the edits I am trying to finish tonight, and I cannot get over how beautiful this picture is! I love black and white photos, but there is really something SO beautiful about a newborn baby in black and white. It makes it almost seem like you can pause time, and the perfect little child that you can hold in your hands.

Working the weekend until 11pm and then coming back at 8am on Monday, made it really hard for me to keep up with my picture posts. Sunday before work, I met a coworker to take some senior pictures of her son, Anthony.
